A brief annotation The biblical story of Daniel is an amazing story of faith, loyalty and heroism. Daniel was exiled from his home in the Land of Israel, before the destruction of the First Temple in Jerusalem in 586 BCE. He grew up in the palace of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, became his favorite and later, the interpreter of his dreams and head of the Kingdom, first under Nebuchadnezzar, then Belshazar, then Darius the Mede. Envious, Daniel's rivals sought his downfall. When Daniel prayed to God they spoke slander of him. Despite his affection for Daniel, the King now had no choice but to have him thrown into the lions' den. The lions did not touch him.
