Description of obverse and reverse | The obverse of the coin contains the main entrance of the art gallery in Graz - the main building of the Universalmuseum Joanneum. In the background – the Exhibition Hall Kunsthaus established in 2003. At the top - the face value – “50 EURO”. At the bottom - the semicircular inscription – “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH”. On the left – the inscription “Kunsthaus” and the year of issue “2011”. The reverse contains the image of the museum of medieval weapons in Graz - the largest arsenal of historical weapons in the world. Along the wall stands the armor of medieval knights. On the left - semicircular inscription “LANDESZEUGHAUS GRA”. |
A brief annotation | Styrian Provincial Museum Joanneum (Landesmuseum Joanneum) was founded in 1811 by Archduke Johann. Now it is the largest universal museum in Central Europe. Its branches are located in 13 cities in Styria. On September the 10th, 2009, Landesmuseum Joanneum was renamed to Universalmuseum Joanneum. |
