Description of obverse and reverse | Rarely does a coin feature a royal effigy on both sides, but this proof quality coin features not only a double effigy but an ultra-high relief royal portrait framed by the raised edges normally seen on a sculpted military medal. Its ultra-high relief has been achieved by striking the coin an impressive four times followed by extensive refining and polishing—an intense hand-crafted process that produces a unique finish for each coin. The reverse of this unique coin presents the effigy of H.R.H. Prince William of Wales in ultra high relief. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. |
A brief annotation | Continuity of the Crown. The British Royal Family is arguably the most visible and best-known worldwide. This coin, part of a three-coin series featuring Prince William, his brother Prince Harry, and his father, Prince Charles, celebrates the figureheads of an institution that has played a significant role in British life for centuries. Today, the monarch’s role is vastly different from that of earlier sovereigns but it is woven with the strong threads of history. H.R.H. Prince William of Wales is Second in line to the British Throne. |
