Description of obverse and reverse | On the upper part of the obverse – on the left: a relief image of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus; in the center – the cave drawings depicting a bull in Lascaux cave in France, the inscriptions: on the drawing – “ПЯЧОРА ЛАСКО”, on the left of it – “РЭСПУБЛІКА”, above – “БЕЛАРУСЬ”; at the bottom – the year of issue and the face value “20 RUBLEЎ”. On the central part of the reverse – a relief image of an ancient statue of Venus Paleolithic found in a village Kostenki (Voronezh region of Russia) which represents the goddess of fertility, on the left – the inscription: “ПАЛЕАЛІТЫЧНАЯ ВЕНЕРА. КАСЦЁНКІ”; at the bottom on the right – the alloy. |
A brief annotation | The World of sculpture series includes coins reflecting the main stages of world art development from the primitive society to the present day. Paleolithic Venus - the so-called by archaeologists statues made of stone, bone and baked clay depicting nude women. According to one version they are connected with the cult of "foremothers". In a village Kostenki-1 there were found ten relatively unharmed (which is rare) female figures which are famous nowadays all over the world. |
