Mintage | Reverse: showcasing authentic Aboriginal artwork, the reverse design featured on the Turtle Dreaming coins is inspired by the artist’s memories of a hunting trip in the north of Western Australia, when he was a boy. The design comprises a turtle surrounded by patterns of dots, symbolising the hunters’ journey, and circles, representing the places where the hunters stopped. Obverse: issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the identical obverse designs bear the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA 2008”, the year of issue, the denomination, and the weight and purity of the metal. |
