Description of obverse and reverse | The obverse features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as sovereign of Tokelau, together with the Tokelauan symbol, the Taluma. The Taluma is a traditional fishing tackle box, an essential element in the daily lives of the Tokelauan people. The monetary denomination of Five Dollars together with the weight and purity of the silver is also included. The effigy, taluma and all lettering is finished in frosted relief against a highly polished table area. The reverse design features a stunning image of a Mare and her foal, standing in some long grass, and the date 2014. The classic design allows the Mint to showcase the high quality traditional proof finish with delicate frosting on the relief areas and a highly polished table. |
A brief annotation | The design is powerful in its simplicity. It is said that those born in the Year of the Horse love to be surrounded by family and friends. They make friends easily due to their pleasant demeanor. They are excellent communicators and feel comfortable with others around them. They are unselfish and loyal and will give all their love and support to their families in order to help them succeed in life. The power, strength and beauty of the mother in this picture standing protectively beside her young foal gracefully embody the characteristics of the Year of the Horse personality. |
