The obverse depicts the famous masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci. The portrait of Mona Lisa is in close-up, in the middle of the coin. In the background, a reinterpretation of both the frame and the background is displayed in a zoomed effect. The pyramid shape, key symbol of the Louvre Museum, surrounds the Mona Lisa’s portrait.
The reverse displays the portrait of Leonardo da Vinci with a compass, symbol of precision. Two main works of da Vinci are displayed alongside: the flying machine and the Vitruvian Man. On the right-hand part of the coin, a reversed writing paragraph (made to protect da Vinci’s inventions) is displayed. The reverse also includes the mention « 500e anniversaries» that evokes the passing away anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci.
