Description of obverse and reverse
The obverse shows portrait of Ferenc Deák, Hungarian statesman and Minister of Justice. He was known as "The Wise Man of the Nation”, head of the delegation . Micro lettering at the bottom of the obverse, depicting the famous slogan of Deák captured political credo behind it: „I am more able to love my homeland, than to hate my enemies.”

The reverse bairs the portrait of Queen Elisabeth and Franz Joseph I. The two depictions and the two sides of the coin are connected by the Habsburg and Austrian coat-of-arms and the cote-of-arms of the Hungarian Kingdom. The stamp-like form at the top of the reverse symbolises the actuality of the issue with the digit ’7’ linking the two yeardates of 1867 and 2017.
A brief annotation
The Compromise of 1867 reestablished the political, legal and economic relations between the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary and formed the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary. The process was negotiated between the head of the house of Habsburg, Franz Joseph I and the Hungarian delegation headed by Ferenc Deák. Its moral lesson which endures to this day is that two parties with serious conflicts of interest were ultimately able to reach a peaceful compromise thanks to their tireless efforts. The coin has been issued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Compromise.
