Description of obverse and reverse
The reverse design of the 2012 Australian Kookaburra coin depicts a kookaburra sitting on a tree branch amid eucalypt leaves. The design is circled by the inscriptions AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA, the 2012 year-date, and the weight and purity of the coin. The Perth Mint’s historic ‘P’ mintmark is also incorporated in the design.
Issued as Australian legal tender, the obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, bordered by the inscriptions ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and the monetary denomination.
A brief annotation
As the issuer of Australia’s official Silver Bullion Coin Series, The Perth Mint has released a new design of the Australian Kookaburra silver coin each year since 1989. The annual release depicts an artistic representation of Australia’s most famous bush bird – the kookaburra.
