A brief annotation
The year 2012 represents the “Year of the Dragon” in the Chinese Zodiac. In the Chinese mythology the dragon is very important. As powerful often godlike creature the yellow dragon was a symbol of the Chinese emperor and it was only allowed the emperor to use this symbol.
Wealth, longevity and fortune will be associated with the dragon.
With the collection “2012 Year of the dragon” the art of minting reaches a new dimension. The new especially for this coin-series developed production method “Full Dimensional Minting” is a revolutionary combination of minting and casting technology. So the reverse of the coins could be arranged as full three-dimensional sculptures for the first time. Thus the dragon-motifs get an all-time fascinating plasticity. Due to this important innovation of production technology it was possible to produce the first three-dimensional coin.
