A brief annotation
The fascination with the Egyptian ruler Tutankhamun as we know today did not necessarily stem from the King himself but more so from the discovery of his tomb. Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered in 1922 almost completely intact in the Valley of the Kings, Luxor by English archaelogist and Egyptologist Howard Carter. The tomb consisted of four chambers, an entrance staircase and corridor, all of which were filled with more than 5,000 artefacts, many of which were found to be made from solid gold. The vast collection consisted of thrones, furniture, statues and masks, including the infamous Death Mask of Tutankhamun. These findings spurred renewed interested in Ancient Egypt making 'Howard Carter' and 'Tutankkhamun the household names they are today - 100 years later. To make this coin unique, sand from the boy king's tomb in the Valley of the Kings was collected by Taya Pobjoy and is encapsuled within the coin behind a thin plate of glass.
