There are more than 20,000 types of bees worldwide – a keystone species, bees play a vital role in preserving the biodiversity and health of Australian and global ecosystems. Australia is home to around 2,000 native bees and until 200 years ago did not have any native honey bees (Apis mellifera)! In 1822, the first honey bees arrived on our shores at Sydney Cove aboard the ship Isabella.
