A brief annotation
The city of Babylon was the capital of Babylonia, a kingdom in ancient Mesopotamia. The city was founded more than 4,000 years ago along both banks of the Euphrates river, whose ruins are located in present-day Iraq. King Hammurabi created one of the ancient world’s largest cities during the 18th century BC. After being destroyed, Babylon became the Neo- Babylonian Empire’s capital that spanned from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea. Art and architecture flourished throughout the Babylonian Empire, especially in Babylon, which is also famous for its impenetrable walls and blue tiled Ishtar Gate.
