Description of obverse and reverse
The front shows the façade of the Rector’s Office of the University of Szeged, with its iconic fountain in the foreground. The composition on the back features a portrait and signature of Albert Szent-Györgyi, Hungarian Nobel-prize winner with the inscription ‘Alma mater of Albert Szent-Györgyi’, as he was student and later also professor of the institution, where he conducted the researches which led him the Nobel-prize for being first isolating vitamin C and discovering its components and reactions.
A brief annotation
The coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the university in Szeged (third biggest in population city of Hungary). The University of Szeged is one of Hungary’s leading institutions of higher education. It ranks as the best Hungarian university in the British QS international list of higher education institutions, with tertiary instruction of 13 fields.
