The reverse of the coin depicts the view of a poor young girl, trying to sell matches in the street. In the flame of the matches she sees her grandmother, the only person to have treated her with love and kindness. When the matches are gone the girl dies and behind her, the death is waiting to take her soul. On the side of the reverse, the inscriptions: “FEAR TALES” – the name of the series and “2020” – the year of issue. 

The main idea of the series is to transform a happy ending of a story in a sad ending. The Little Match Girl was perfect for the "Fear Tales" series, where death wins in the end and takes a frightened, sad and lonely little girl's soul with it. The symbolism is very strong on this coin, where once with the death of the child, her hopes and dreams go away. A sad message, but a very deep one.
