Description of obverse and reverse
The obverse of the coin represents the figuration of the human in union, represented by a face inscribed in a sphere. It faces the infinitely small, represented by fragments of DNA inscribed in a circle. By its oblique axis, this allegory represents the research and its intelligence dominating the infinitely small; studying it and triumphing over the diseases. RF is located at the top right while the mintmark and the 2020 year date are located at the bottom left.
The reverse is the same than all the common 2€ coins, similar to all the countries of the euro zone. The «2 euro» face value appears in front of the european map.
A brief annotation
The year 2020 was marked by the global health crisis related to covid-19. This event has disrupted our lives to a greater or lesser extent. Nevertheless, this ordeal has often been a vector of cohesion and national unity. In order not to forget the positive impulses that were born and to capitalize on the future, we owe it to ourselves to come together. As always in health issues, research is an essential key to the struggle we are waging. After having thanked the medical staff and all the people mobilized at the heart of this crisis by creating the medal “Merci”, Monnaie de Paris is continuing its action by creating a €2 commemorative collection to support research. For every €2 Medical Research coin purchased, Monnaie de Paris commits to donate €2 to Fondation de France.
