Description of obverse and reverse
The reverse is double dated (“1945-2020”) to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Charter of the United Nations (“UN CHARTER CHARTRE DE L’ONU”). A nod to the UN logo, a map within a laurel wreath is paired with a maple leaf symbol of Canada’s commitment to human rights and global peace. The maple leaf is clad in red with a laser mark of a single maple leaf inscribed in a circle.
The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
A brief annotation
Canada has reason to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations Charter, which is regarded by many as a key nation- building milestone. Canada played a prominent role in the drafting of the charter in 1945, in addition to being one its original signatories. Those contributions to the founding of the UN, as well as its leadership in creating a UN peacekeeping force, are a great source of pride for many Canadians.
