Description of obverse and reverse
The reverse design by Canadian artist Simon Ng features the curling shape of the iconic Chinese Fu Xi dragon. The subject was inspired from a wide spectrum of traditional paintings, mythological art, embroideries, sculpture and tattoos. The waves of an ornate frame elegantly surround the intricate design.

The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
A brief annotation
Chinese mythology plays an important role in the cultural life of Chinese-Canadian communities. Fu Xi, a legendary figure credited with creating the first humans, is depicted with the body of a serpent and the head of a man. The Emperors were thought to be direct descendants of the dragons. According to legend, Chinese civilization stems from Fu Xi – the eighth of the Chinese Dragon’s nine sons. In this coin, he is seen swirling within an ornate frame, next to a pearl of wisdom – which he dispenses to enlighten his people.
