A brief annotation
The Baroque coin refers to the "Ages of Europe", which reflect some of the most significant European artistic movements, an artistic style recognized for its splendor and exuberance that arose during the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Portuguese coin, designed by the sculptor António Marinho, mixes the religion with the profane with recognized characteristics of the baroque style. In the coin, a cherub - a spiritual element - is seen alongside a wealth of ornaments and the image of a shell.
The Baroque style treats the themes with greater dynamism, stronger contrasts, greater drama, exuberance and realism and tendency to the decorative, in addition to expressing a tension between the taste for opulent materiality and the demands of a spiritual life.
The style is characterized by the confusion of concepts and ideas, the search for humanistic values and the conflict of body and soul.
For that reason we can consider this coin as a baroque coin.
