A brief annotation
In 2018 a continuation of the series of coins “Architectural heritage of Belarus”, commemorative coins “St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk” are issued.

St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk is an architectural monument of XI-XVIII centuries, the very first stone building in Belarus.

Built in the middle of the XI century in the Byzantine style, the cathedral was consecrated in the name of St. Sophia. Until now, St. Sophia Cathedral has been preserved in a significantly modified form and was finally rebuilt in the XVIII century in the style of the Vilna Baroque. In this form it has survived to our time. The Cathedral is part of the Polotsk historical and cultural Museum-Reserve.

This cathedral belongs to the “0” category of objects of the State list of historical and cultural values.
