Description of obverse and reverse

Obverse: half profile of Mihály Vörösmarty, writer of the poem, with the national flag on the background. On the flag an excerpt of the original handwritten text and the poet’s initials can be seen.

Reverse: half profile of Béni Egressy, composer of the Szózat’s music, against the backround of the old National Theatre, where the piece was first performed. Quote of the music with the initials of the composer are also added.

A brief annotation

Along with the official national anthem Himnusz, the Szózat is Hungary’s second national song. It takes an expansive view, expressing that Hungarians anywhere in the world can be proud of their heritage.
