On the obverse there is an image of a butterfly. In the center (on the disk of niobium) the year of coinage "2017" is indicated. On the silver ring there are engraved inscriptions in a semicircle – "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH", "25 EURO".

On the reverse there is a clear image of a fly in the center, and a measuring scale is shown. In the upper part to the right the name of the coin "MICROCOSMOS" is engraved.

"Following the topic of the exploration of the cosmos - which a 2015 coin series of silver coins with niobium, popular between numismatists, were dedicated to, the Austrian Mint begins a technological journey in the opposite direction – to the microcosmos," the Mint's press service reported. – A butterfly is chosen as the vehicle for this journey. Its crimson-red image can be found on the grassy-green niobium center of the obverse of the coin. But the real discoveries begin on the reverse of the coin, where a microscopic view of the butterfly's wing is shown. Moving clockwise, we proceed to in-depth study of the wing using an electron microscope. The lower part of the reverse of the coin shows the cage, its structure and even its core".
