A brief annotation
Australia has a proud history of exploration and scientific research in the Antarctic – the world’s highest, driest and coldest continent. To celebrate these efforts, The Perth Mint unveiled the Australian Antarctic Territory series to honour the famous fauna, explorers, scientific observation stations and phenomenon, in the region. The twelfth coin in the sell-out series, Elephant Seal, showcases the largest seal in the world found in the icy region.
