A brief annotation
This is the first coin of the series commemorating the regaining of independence by Poland on 11 November 1918. On that day the Germans signed an armistice in the forest of Compiégne near Paris, which ended World War I. After that the Regency Council ceded power to Marshal Józef Piłsudski, who proceeded to form the structures of Polish statehood. Poland regained independence after 123 years of foreign rule. The series will include four themes to be put into circulation on a theme per year basis. The last theme is planned to be issued on the 100th anniversary of regaining independence – in 2018.
