Proof Finish with beautiful jade insert
Description of obverse and reverse
The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. With this fine silver coin, the Royal Canadian Mint introduced another technological first: the ground-breaking addition of a beautiful jade inlay to the meticulously engraved reverse. Canada’s national symbol, the sugar maple leaf, is particularly resplendent in green as the leaf-shaped jade adds elegance, lustre and a distinctive colour to the overall design. As in nature, no two jade pieces are alike; painstakingly shaped and polished, each jade leaf features natural variations that make each piece, and each coin, truly unique.
A brief annotation
Whatever the season, whatever the experience, the maple is ever-present in Canada while its distinctive leaf continues to inspire people around the world. Much like the coin’s shaped jade inlay, the maple leaf has a distinct and elegant shape that symbolizes Canada’s natural beauty. The use of jade as a maple leaf is particularly fitting: while Canada is one of the world’s leading sources of nephrite jade, the stone has long symbolized prosperity while Canada’s national symbol has come to represent a land of opportunities.
