Proof finish and glow in the dark technology on both coin
Description of obverse and reverse
The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Photoluminscescent (glow-in-the-dark) technology adds a unique twist to the Royal Canadian Mint’s Silver Maple Leaf coin. The reverse evokes an autumn day in Canada’s outdoors through the presentation of sugar maples leaves grouped together and splayed out in a manner that beautifully showcases their fall colouring. The use of brilliant colour application recreates the maple leaves’ famed seasonal transformation; but once the coin is removed from natural light, glow-in-the-dark technology allows for the appearance of a single stylized maple leaf – the very symbol that adorns our beloved national flag.
A brief annotation
Each autumn, the Canadian landscape undergoes a remarkable transformation that sees summer’s green hues replaced by a veritable artist’s palette of brilliant oranges, golds, reds and browns. In depicting the beauty that comes with this amazing seasonal change – along with a hidden image of an iconic symbol – this coin pays tribute to an internationally recognised emblem that has come to represent Canada, its people, its history, and the land itself.
