Proof, double latent image
Description of obverse and reverse
The obverse portrays the likeness of His Majesty King Juan Carlos I.
The reverse shows a likeness of the samurai Hasekura Tsunenaga, the Mission's ambassador, praying before a crucifix, inspired by the painting housed in the Museum of the city of Sendai (Japan). To the left, a shape that contains the flags of Japan and Spain engraved in the latent image process. Above this, a sailing ship, symbolizing the voyage to Spain across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The latent image reveals the flags of either Spain or Japan depending on the viewing angle.
