Description of obverse and reverse
The Lily Font features at the base of the coin. It is traditionally used in Royal christenings, when babies are baptised with water from the River Jordan. Harp playing cherubs adorn the coin, designed in the ornate, and very ‘royal’, baroque style. The motto reads Dieu et mon droit or ‘God and my right’. It is the motto of the monarch, Prince George’s great-grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen.
A brief annotation
To mark the christening of a Royal baby for the very first time, especially commissioned christening coins have been struck. The Kilo coin is struck only rarely, reserved for the nation’s most important events.
