Obverse: effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. The text reads «BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS QUEEN ELIZABETH II 2013». Reverse: the coin features the three-dimensional Great Pyramids in ultra high relief amongst the flowing sand dunes at Giza. The coin also includes sand from the site of the Pyramids which has been encapsulated into the coin.

Egypt’s Great Pyramids are one of the world’s most beautiful and awe-inspiring sights. The Great Pyramid at Giza was built for Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops) and has stood since the 26th Century BC. Two later kings – Khafre (Chefron) and Menjaure (Mycerinus) built their own pyramids close by. As a tribute to these amazing structures this coin was struck in Ultra High Relief with the highest point standing approximately 4.5mm to 5mm above the main face of the coin. When viewed from the side the true genius of the coin comes to life featuring the three-dimensional pyramids and the flowing sand dunes at Giza. Also, sand bought back By Pobjoy Mint’s Managing Director, Taya Pobjoy, from the site of the Great Pyramids has been encapsulated into the coin.
