Description of obverse and reverse
The obverse shows a portrait of Queen Beatrix with a sumptuous flowering tulip as the national symbol.
On the reverse a closed tulip can be seen in combination with the Turkish flag. With the coin in coin concept is a metaphoric image for the door that suggests the opening to the other side.
A brief annotation
The coin celebrates 400 years diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Turkey. The coin is a well-balanced design, with a perfect match between front and obverse.
This coin is the first Dutch commemorative coin with colouring and this colouring is well balanced and modest.
