Obverse: State Emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the left sector; face value “5000 ТЕҢГЕ”, metal and weight of the coin “Ag 925 1000 gr.” on the right sector; gilded map of Kazakhstan and conventional image of a winged ounce, trade mark of Kazakhstan Mint on the lower sector; name of the issuing authority (National Bank of Kazakhstan) in Kazakh “ҚАЗАҚСТАНҰЛТТЫҚБАНКІ” on the upper sector. Reverse: collage of sign buildings of Astana and Almaty symbolizing succession of times and formations against background of conventional image of clock dial; inscription in Kazakh “ТӘУЕЛСІЗҚАЗАҚСТАНҒА 20 ЖЫЛ” (20 years of Independence of Kazakhstan) on the bottom right sector; year of issue “2011” on the upper left sector.

The commemorative coins were issued to celebrate the 20 – Year of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The idea was based on the time theme – its march. There are clock points on the wide edge. The composition represents the significant buildings of Astana and Almaty joined with a free line symbolizing succession of times and formations. Almaty buildings are made in a masking technique symbolizing the Soviet period. Astana buildings are made in volume. In the center of the coin hands of the clock point to 20:30 – the development programme of the country is designed up to 2030. On the obverse – a gold plated map of Kazakhstan with a jumping panther on the background – the symbol of ancient Turks and the new capital – Astana.
