A brief annotation
This coin commemorates 175th Anniversary of Raffi’s birth. Raffi (Hakob Meliq-Hakobyan) is a famous Armenian writer, publicist and public figure. He graduated from the Tiflis State Russian Gymnasium. In 1875-1879 Raffi taught Armenian language and history in the Armenian schools in Tabriz and Agulis. Then he returned to Tiflis and completely devoted himself to authorship. In “Khachagogh’s Diary”, “Gold Cock”, “David Bek”, “Samvel” and other popular novels Raffi put forward ideas on the significance of individuals’ civic duty and of national unity. Being a master of various genres in prose Raffi drew Armenian literature together with the world literature standards.
