The design captures the adorable wide-eyed innocence of an infant kangaroo or “joey” in colour, standing among struck representations of native Australian flowers. The reverse design also incorporates the inscription “Australian kangaroo” and The Perth Mint’s traditional “P” mintmark. Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The obverse design bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, bordered by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA”, the monetary denomination, the 2010 year-date, and the weight and fineness of the metal.
