Description of obverse and reverse
The obverse features Spain's coat-of-arms as its central motif surrounded by the coats-of-arms of the other participating countries in the 8th Iberian-American Series.
The reverse reproduces the reverse of an 8-reales coin that was struck in Seville under the Catholic Monarchs Isabella I and Ferdinand V of Castile, during whose reign Christopher Columbus reached the American territories.
A brief annotation
The theme chosen for the 8th issue in the Iberian-American Series is “Historical Coins”.The participating countries (Argentina, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal and Spain) have chosen the most representative coins in their history. These series have the characteristic that each country allows its coat of arms to be reproduced in other countries’ coins. Therefore, the reverses of the coins depict the national coat of arms surrounded by the remaining ones.
