Description of obverse and reverse
Obverse: the right part depicts a stylized image of a pelican head, the face value of the coin “500 ТЕҢГЕ”, “Ag 925 31,1 gr.” means metal, standard of mintage and weight, the trade mark of the Kazakhstan Mint, the left part depicts two birds against water surface background; the name of issuing bank in Kazakh “ҚАЗАҚСТАН ҰЛТТЫҚ БАНКІ” along circumference.
Reverse: in the central part there is an image of Dalmatian pelican. On the circumference there is an inscription “БҰЙРА БІРҚАЗАН” in the official language and “PELECANUS CRISPUS” in Latin which means the name of zoological kind. In the lower part there is an inscription “2010” – the year of mintage.
A brief annotation
Dalmatian pelican is a bird of pelican’s family. A distinctive feature of this pelican is elongated and twirled “curly” feathers on its head and on upper part of its neck which look like a mane.
