On the obverse of the coin in the centre there is a face value "500 ТЕҢГЕ" (500 Tenge). Below the face value there is an inscription "Ag 925 24 g" signifying the metal, it’s alloy and weight and the mintage year "2009". In the upper part on the oval there is an inscription "ҚАЗАҚСТАН ҰЛТТЫҚ БАНКІ" in the official language and the mintmark of the Kazakhstan Mint. In the lower part there is a stylized contour image of a butterfly and a plants composition. Reverse: there is an image of two flamingos, the sun disc and the holographic image of the water surface with the reflection of the birds. In the upper part on the oval there is an inscription "ҚОҚИҚАЗ" in the official language and the name of the species "PHOENICOPTERUS ROSEUS" in Latin. The coin has got the oval shape.
