The results of Coin Constellation - 2014

The Awarding Ceremony of the Eighth International Commemorative Coins Contest “Coin Constellation - 2014” took place on 18th September 2014 in Moscow. This year the jury from numerous world museums, auctions houses, coin distributing companies, numismatic associations and specialized media have judged more than 260 commemorative coins and 25 coins series from 31 countries, issued from 1st January till 31st December 2013.

Coin Constellation is the only international contest of commemorative coins in Russia. The participants are national banks, mints, coin distributing companies from all over the world.

For the first time among the participants this year there are the Royal Australian Mint, Central Bank of the Philippines-Mint and Gold Refinery Department.

Among the contestants are the famous coin distributors: Tatfondbank (Russia), Bank VTB 24 (Russia), Resource Trade (Russia), Russian Souvenir (Russia), Coin Invest Trust (Liechtenstein), Emporium Hamburg (Germany), NUMISCOLLECT (the Netherlands), Numiscom (Germany),PAMP (Switzerland), Treasures of Oz (Australia), Moneda Nueva (Spain), New Zealand Post.

The contest was held in nine major nominations: Unique Idea Concept, Successful Artistic Solution, Original Technology, Silver Coin of the Year, Gold Coin of the Year, Coin Classic, Souvenir Coin, Series of the Year, and Coin of the Year. The winners are determined by the absentee voting of the jury committee.

Winners and nominees of the contest «Coin Constellation-2014»

Unique Idea Concept

Winner – the philosophical silver coin 365. The circle on the obverse symbolizes 360+5 degrees as well as the amount of days in a year. The concentric lines within the circle represent 1 second, 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 month, 1 year. The coin is presented by the Bank of Latvia and minted by the Royal Dutch Mint.

Second Place the silver coin Fortuna Redux minted and presented by the Mint of Poland. It is the only cylinder-shaped coin with the effigy of Mercury, the Roman god of trade, merchants and travelers.

The Third Place was shared between two silver coins. The first one is called The Year of Preservation of the Environment, presented by the Central Bank of Russia and the Moscow Mint of Goznak (minted there as well). The other coin is 400th anniversary of the issuance of the first map of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania minted by the Lithuanian Mint and submitted by the Lithuanian Bank.

Successful Artistic Solution

Winner the silver coin Richard Wagner minted by the Royal Dutch Mint and presented by Bank of Latvia.

Second Place the gold coin Klimt The Expectation, illustrating the importance of women in Gustav Klimts artistic life. The coin has been minted and submitted for the contest by the Austrian Mint.

The Third Place was taken by two silver coins. The first one is called 900th Anniversary of the Tale of Bygone Years minted by the Banknote Printing and Minting Works of the National Bank of Ukraine and presented by the National Bank of Ukraine. The other coin was minted and presented by Mint of Finland. Its called Multiculturalism.

Original Technology

Winner the coin Mongolian Nature 2013 submitted by Coin Invest Trust from Liechtenstein. Through the use of a modern cutting method, a technically advanced and delicate work of art has been created. The coin was minted of gilded silver 925° by the BH Mayer Mint (Germany).

Second Place the coin Cyrtonaias Tampicoensis presented by NumisCollect (the Netherlands). This coin is made of silver in the shape of Oyster with hologram and pearl.

The Third Place is shared between two coins. One of them is The International Space Station minted by the Kazakhstan Mint and presented by the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The second coin is Great Pyramids of Giza presented by the Pobjoy Mint.

Coin Classic

Winner the silver coin The Kronstadt Saint Nikolas the Miracle Man Marine Cathedral, Kronstadt District of Saint Petersburg. It was issued by the Bank of Russia and minted by the Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak.

Second Place the coin Queen Mary II Gold Coin minted by Imprensa Nacional-Casa Da Moeda and nominated by the Organizing Committee of Coin Constellation-2014.

The second place was also shared by the coin 500th Anniversary of the discovery of the Pacific Ocean presented by the Royal Spanish Mint.

Third Place - the coin The House with Chimeras nominated by the National Bank of Ukraine and minted by the Banknote Printing and Minting Works of the National Bank of Ukraine.

Souvenir Coin

Winner the coin Homeland of apples presented by the National Bank of Kazakhstan. The coin is made of silver 925 by the Kazakhstan Mint of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Second Place the silver coin 850th anniversary of Notre-Dame de Paris UNESCO presented by Monnaie de Paris.

Third Place the 25-Rouble coin Olympic Torch Relay (The Central Bank of the Russian Federation and Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak). It is made of copper and nickel with pad printing.

Coin Series of the Year

The First Place was taken by the series 1500 years of French History presented by Monnaie de Paris. Two coins have one denomination - 10 Euro and are made of silver 900. The third coin is 50 Euro made of gold 920.

Second Place the set of 6 silver coins The Numismatic Legacy of Mexico presented by the Bank of Mexico and minted by the Mint of Mexico.

Third Place - the coin series The Arts of Nature and Manpresented by the Bank ofLithuaniaand minted bythe Lithuanian Mint.

Silver Coin of the Year


Winner the coin 500th Anniversary of the discovery of the Pacific Ocean presented by the Royal Spanish Mint.

Second Place the coin Stefan Zweig presented and minted by the Austrian Mint.

The Third Place was shared between two coins. The first one is 850th anniversary of Notre-Dame de Paris UNESCO presented by Monnaie de Paris. The second is Saimaluu Tash presented by National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic. It was minted by the Kazakhstan Mint.

Gold Coin of the Year

Winner the coin Prometheus minted by the Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak and issued by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

Second Place the coin The Red Deer minted and presented by the Austrian Mint.

Third Place the coin St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra presented by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus. It was minted by the Lithuanian Mint.

Coin of the Year

The First Place was taken by the coin Mongolian Nature 2013 presented by Coin Invest Trust (Liechtenstein).

Second Place the silver coin Tunnel construction minted and presented by the Austrian Mint.

Third Place the gold coin History of the Olympic movement in Russia minted by the Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak.

The winner of the Special Prize of the Organizing Committee of Coin Constellation -2014 is the coin series Letters of the Armenian Alphabet presented by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia and minted by the Royal Dutch Mint.

The Prize for the Contribution into Realization of All-Russia Coin Programs

This year the Prize for the Contribution into Realization of All-Russia Coin Programs goes to Sberbank of Russia.

Peoples Choice Award

As a result of online voting at the portal www.Gold10.ru the Peoples Choice Award goes to the silver coin Kul Sharif Mosque presented by Tatfondbank (Russia). The coin was minted by the Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak.
