Results of the contest «Coin Constellation - 2013»
The Awarding Ceremony of the Seventh International commemorative coins contest “Coin Constellation-2013” took place on 26 September in Moscow. This year more than 270 commemorative coins and 28 coins series from 30 countries have been submitted to the contest. According to the contest rules all these coins were minted from 1 January till 31 December 2012.
“Coin Constellation” is the only international commemorative coins contest held on the territory of Russia. Coins submitted by national banks, mints and distributing companies from all over the world take part in the contest.
In 2013 among the participants of “Coin Constellation” are the national banks of Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Bulgaria, Kyrgyz Republic, Poland, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Trans-Dniester Republican Bank, Central Bank of Armenia, Bank of Russia. Mints: The Perth Mint (Australia), Royal Spanish Mint, The Royal Mint (UK), Royal Canadian Mint, Austrian Mint, Andorra Mint, the Pobjoy Mint (UK), Mint of Poland, the Singapore Mint, Mint of Finland, Monnaie de Paris, St. Petersburg and Moscow Mints of Goznak, the Holy Land Mint (Israel). For the first time the participants of “Coin Constellation” became Hungarian Mint, the Royal Dutch Mint, South African Mint, Helvetic Mint (Switzerland), Imprensa Nacional-Casa Da Moeda (Portugal), Tatfondbank (Russia), Transstroibank (Russia), Bank VTB 24 (Russia), Azienda Autonoma di Stato Filatelica e Numismatica – San Marino, Moneda Nueva (Spain), New Zealand Post (New Zealand) and NUMISTRADE (Germany).
Also among the participants of the contest there are well-known distributing companies: Resource Group of Companies (Russia), Russian Souvenir (Russia), Coin Invest Trust (Liechtenstein), Emporium Hamburg (Germany), International Coin House (Switzerland), MDM Muenzhandelsgesellschaft mbH & Co.KG Deutsche Muenze (Germany), Modern Numismatics International (The Netherlands), UNET NUMISCOLLECT (The Netherlands), PAMP (Switzerland), Treasures of Oz (Australia).
The contest was held in nine major nominations: Unique Idea Concept, Successful Artistic Solution, Original Technology, Silver Coin of the Year, Gold Coin of the Year, Coin Classic, Souvenir Coin, Series of the Year, and Coin of the Year. The winners are determined by the absentee voting of the contest committee which includes 48 people – representatives of the international numismatic associations, specialists from the world famous museums and auctions, specialized periodicals about coins.
The tenth nomination, People’s Choice Award is selected on the basis of the results of the open online voting at the numismatic website www.Gold10.ru. Annually the Organizing Committee of the Coin Constellation Contest gives the Special Prize to one of the coins.
Winners and awardees of the contest “Coin Constellation - 2013”
Unique Idea Concept
The winner is the silver coin “Riga Technical University» by Bank of Latvia. The coin has a rhombic shape and consists of two moveable triangles.
II place - the silver coin “2012 UEFA European Football Championship” by the Mint of Poland and National Bank of Poland. It is a composite coin of a quadrangle shape with curved sides.
III place – the silver coin «Arvo Ylppö and Medicine» by the Mint of Finland.
Successful Artistic Solution
The winner is the silver coin «Yves Klein» by Monnaie de Paris. Yves Klein is a French artist who created theInternational Klein Blue color.
II place – the silver coin “The 250th Anniversary of the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg” by Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak and the Bank of Russia.
III place – the silver coin “Styria” by the Austrian Mint.
The winner is the silver coin “World Design Capital Helsinki 2012”. The central part of the coin made of gold has a rugged relief with distinct straight cuts of a different height. Thumbs and hollows are shown on the reverse in inversed manner.
II place – the silver coin “Fine Arts” by the Lithuanian Mint. The coin made in a shape of an artist palette has a through hole which coincides with the figure «0» on the obverse of the coin.
III place – the silver coin «Tango» 20 Belarusian Roubles by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.
The winner is the silver coin «5-lats» by the Bank of Latvia. This coin was issued in honour of the 90th Anniversary of the Bank of Latvia; the design was made by the famous artist Rihards Zariņš in 1929.
II place – the gold coin “Sovereign” by the Royal Mint.
III place – the silver coin “The 250th Anniversary of the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg” by Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak and the Bank of Russia.
For the best “Souvenir coin” the jury has chosen the coin “Year of the Snake”represented by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus and minted by the Mint of Poland.
II place – the 5-Euro coin «2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship» by the Mint of Finland.
III place – the copper-nickel coin “Mascots and the Emblem of the Games”dedicated to the Olympic Games in Sochi. The coin with pad printing is represented by Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak.
Series of the Year
The winner is the coin “Northern Nature” by the Mint of Finland. The series consists of 3 coins – «Flora», «Winter» and «Fauna».
II place – the series of 9 gold coins “25th Anniversary Britannia” by the Royal Mint.
III place – the coin “Four Seasons” by Andorra Mint.
Silver Coin of the Year
The best silver coin of the Year is a 500-Rouble coin “Bicentenary of Russia's Victory in the Patriotic War of 1812” by Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak.
II place – the 1-kilo 500 – pound coin “Diamond Jubilee” by the Royal Mint.
III place – the coin «Riga Zoo» by the Bank of Latvia
Gold Coin of the Year
The winner is the coin «Adele Bloch-Bauer» by the Austrian Mint. On the obverse of the coin there is an image of the famous painting «Adele Bloch Bauer I» by the Austrian artist Gustav Klimt. On the reverse is a portrait of Klimt himself.
II place – the coin “Bicentenary of Russia's Victory in the Patriotic War of 1812”. The weight of the coin minted by Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak is 3 kilo.
III place – the coin “Egypt” by Monnaie de Paris.
Coin of the Year
The Coin of the Year is a gold kilo coin “Diamond Jubilee” by the Royal Mint. The denomination is 1000 pounds.
II place – the gold kilo 10000-Rouble coin “The 1150th Anniversary of the Origin of the Russian Statehood”. The coin is represented by the Bank of Russia and Saint Petersburg Mint of Goznak.
III place – the silver coin “Tamgaly's petroglyphs” by the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Special Prize of the Organizing Committee
The Special Prize was given to the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the coin series “Property of the Republic”. This series includes three coins: “Baikonur” and two silver coins “Tamgaly's petroglyphs”.
Prize for the Contribution to the development of the commemorative coins market
This year the Prize for the contribution to the development of the commemorative coins market goes to Zoya A. Petrova, Deputy Head of Currency Circulation Department of the Bank of Russia.
People’s Choice Award
By the results of the voting on the website www.Gold10.ru the People’s Choice Award is given to the silver coin “2012 UEFA European Football Championship”. The coin was minted at the Mint of Poland and Banknote Printing and Minting Works of the National Bank of Ukraine with the mintage of 10 000 pcs.
