Reverse: the Pyramid of Kukulcán also called El Castillo (The Castle).
A brief annotation The coin minted at 2011 commemorates the designation of the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The coin depicts the pyramid with a square platform and its main staircase which has carved feathered serpents with open-jawed heads at the bottom, and evokes the spectacle that happens at the ruins every spring and autumn equinoxes, when the corner of the pyramid casts a series of triangular shadows creating an effect of a serpent wriggling down the staircase.
