A brief annotation “Pomegranate” is the smallest gold coin issued by the Central Bank of Armenia. Pomegranate takes its special place in the history of Armenian applied art due to a profound meaning given to it by people. This blood red berry with sweet juicy and shiny seeds has always symbolized fertility, wealth and generosity. Pomegranate has inspired artists, writers and sculptors since old times. Till now an image of pomegranate is widely used in Armenian architecture, ornaments, miniatures and carpet weaving art. The symbolic meaning of pomegranate was used by Sergey Parajanov in his famous film “Color of Pomegranate” to convey versatility of human spiritual world.
