Description of obverse and reverse The reverse of the 50p coin marketing the 50th anniversary of WWF features the WWF logo surrounded by a montage of carefully selected symbols to represent the vital work done by the WWF. These symbols are drawn from international themes such as the environment, biodiversity and endangered species.
A brief annotation The WWF (originally known as the World Wildlife Fund) is recognized worldwide as a symbol of conservation and sustainable development. The Royal Mint is proud to mark the 50th Anniversary of the WWF in 2011, with a specially designed commemorative 50p coin. Founded in 1961 and now active in over 100 countries the WWF network is the world’s leading environmental organisation. Working closely with international governments, business and communities the WWF is a challenging, constructive, science-based organisation and addresses issues from the survival of species and habitats to climate change, sustainable business and environmental education.
