Description of obverse and reverse Description (Obverse): Both the gold and silver Treasures of Australia – Diamond coins are issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The identical obverse designs bear the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA 2009" as the issuing country and year of issue, the monetary denomination, and the weight and purity of the metal from which each coin is struck. Description (Reverse): The reverse design of the Treasures of Australia – Diamonds coin portrays an abstract interpretation of Australia’s stark and beautiful landscape – one of the world’s richest sources of gems and precious metals. The design, which includes the inscription "TREASURES OF AUSTRALIA", surrounds a half-circle capsule showcasing 1-carat of natural rough diamonds mined in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.
